Shadows of Self by Brandon Sanderson
5.0

waaaaaah I need the next book NOW

FULL REVIEW:
Before this year(I really, really hate to admit this), I had never heard of Brandon Sanderson. *cringes* I speed read the entire Wheel of Time series in the first six months of the year, and Brandon’s installments were by far my favorites. So...I began reading his other works. Aaand that became an obsession.

I am *finally* caught up on the Mistborn series after finishing Shadows of Self way past my bedtime last night. Oh. My. God.

First let's talk about just how good this book was. At about 100 pages in I couldn't stop reading. I did not want to stop reading. Shadows of Self has the perfect blend of action, sincerity, thrills, and comedy, with yet another jaw-dropping, heart stopping/wrenching ending. Which I've discovered is something I just need to get used to with Sanderson.(Side note: How does he always have such PERFECT endings?!)

Now I want to talk about Mr. Sanderson’s story telling capabilities, which absolutely shine in Shadows of Self. I was blown away by just how well thought out this book was. The little things make it stand out. The small details that will come into play in a big way later in the story. That kind of story telling slays me. I have so much respect for Brandon as a writer. He has pieced together this beautiful, intricate, complicated world in a way that makes it a downright joy to read. And I love the tie-ins to the original Mistborn series(kandras are my everything)!

Overall, Shadows of Self is one of the best books I've read this year. I cannot wait to see where Wax’s story goes next, and I need my Wayne fix. Bands of Mourning can't get into my hands soon enough. Fans of Mistborn will definitely enjoy this installment and won't be able to turn the pages fast enough. I highly recommend that anyone unfamiliar with this series check it out right now, I promise you won't regret it.
