Strange Weather by Joe Hill
4.0

I was very pleased with this collection by Joe Hill! This was my first foray into his shorter fiction, and I was surprised at how well he does lean and mean as well as lengthy novels! Four short reviews of each novella below:
.
Snapshot - I really enjoyed this creepy little story, and I thought the inclusion of loved ones suffering Alzheimer’s was very well done and emotional. I do think both Hill and his daddy King have a bizarre obsession with when the main character is fat, constantly pointing out their weight to the point where it’s impossible not to notice it, in completely random situations - not necessary. 4/5
.
Loaded - Holy shit this was one powerful novella. I was literally messaging Jo @jobis89 every time something new happened, I was SHOOK. I think this is an amazing story for the current climate around gun control in the US, and while it was shocking, it was also hugely important. 4/5
.
Aloft - Arguably my least favourite of the collection, but still an enjoyable and imaginative story! But listening to copious descriptions of ‘oily nervous farts slipping out’ got a bit tiring - I don’t wanna know! 3/5
.
Rain - My favourite out of the four! I loved the main character, the story, the twists, everything. I love the way Hill incorporates modern politics into his stories, sometimes it’s hilarious and sometimes the horror of it sets in. But it’s always awesome! 5/5
