The hype is legit. Fantastic writing craft, interesting characters, and a very, very unique world that's unlike anything I've read before. The reader is rewarded for showing patience - the first quarter? third? half? of the book invokes a block of questions, many of which become more clear as the story develops, but the reader's hand is not held.

This book would reward a reread. But, I'm more interested in reading the next book in the series.
