I was really looking forward to Maitland and Maeve's story.  It was disappointing to see that they got a novella rather than a full story, but I typically enjoy a novella anyways.  In this instance, the topics/plotlines were tied to grief and making their story a novella, I feel, didn't do it justice.  This could have been an incredible slow burn but instead it was frustrating.  There wasn't any real character development, and often the characters would say one thing and then do or claim something different in the next, without any real progression or growth.  I would have preferred to wait for another installment in the series and have the stories really flushed out rather than feel like I read something rushed and thrown together.  I want to love these new characters and sometimes I really do, but the series as a whole leans heavily on nostalgia from characters in the original series and it's just not working for me.
