A Curse So Dark and Lonely
by Brigid Kemmerer
You know what I’m just going to go there because I’m mad.
This is the first book making me mad in a long time. Which makes me want to give no stars.
I‘m DISAPPOINTED as heck
I‘m bumping this down because I’m salty that the second book erases all the good things in book 1.
Brigid Kemmerer is one of my favorite contemporary authors and I liked their writing style very much in every book I’ve read.
BUT
I love beauty and the beast and at first I thought the new take was amazing and well crafted. I loved the differences and new take on the story a lot. But the ending complete destroyed my enjoyment. There was a slow burning romance and I loved it. Instead of it being romantic in the end it’s just oh well I guess I might like you.
and I don’t get in the slightest bit why Grey would just abandon them making them think he’s dead because of a fucking title. What amazing friendship what groundbreaking loyalty there was for 300+ seasons is erased because he knows they are brothers. Of fuck off. I don’t even want a sequel following him.
(Now Spoilers for book 2!!!!!!!!)
Another Rant coming because I guessed it.
What I originally wrote:
I feel like this is another series where I‘m getting this amazing story arch for one character just to make him the villain again in the next book. I hate that trope. What does all the hardship we went through mean if you just throw it all in the garbage right after. So not excited for the next book sadly.
I just checked and yes. They make Rhen go super villain and cruel again all of a sudden but completely leave him and Harper out of the story other than being plot devices. Or better even make the strong heroine with great rep from book 1 weak and disposable. Like we need for a new main character to look down on her. So completely copying another extremely popular series but not giving the main character a new love interest or expanding on the love triangle that was hinted at. Just another romance that comes out of nowhere. And of course destroying the story and characters of book 1 completely.
Thanks but no thanks. Biggest disappointment in ages.
