The Maze Runner by James Dashner
4.0

Writing style - 3 stars. Characters - 3 stars. Plot - 4 stars. Idea - 5 stars. I'm a huge Hunger Games fan and after getting re-excited (not a word) after the movie just came out and everything, it probably wasn't the best idea to jump straight to this series, which in itself is a bit reminiscent of Hunger Games. I can't help but compare them and long for that amazing stream of consciousness narrative style and amazing character of Katniss, but Maze Runner definitely holds up. It's a brilliant concept and reading it was actually a bit weird because the whole trilogy totally sounds like something that I would write myself and not be quiteeeeee satisfied with. It's a page turner for sure, and the characters have so much potential, but unfortunately several of them fall a bit flat for various reasons. Overall, it's very entertaining and I definitely recommend it.

However, if you HATED Mockingjay (I actually liked it, mostly) and want to avoid Mockingjay 2.0 (but way worse), do not even go near the third book, The Death Cure. Stick with the first two and leave the rest to your imagination.
