The Freshman
by Monica Murphy
While I haven’t read all of the Callahan series by this author, I was excited for this little bit of a branch off series. And this first book did not disappoint at all! Tony and Hayden were perfect. The issues they had to overcome were ones that made sense given their family history, and I think the way they dealt with them totally worked as well.
At first I forgot the exact synopsis as I started reading, and thought it was going to be a little bit different than what it was. But I really am glad with the way it went. The sexual tension between the two was very much coming off the page in their dialogue and interactions with each other. But I liked how Hayden was very sex-positive and I also loved how much of a gentleman Tony was about everything. Her feelings, what she wanted or didn’t want to do. He was a perfect guy, even if he did push people away as soon as it seemed they would leave anyway. I know I do similar things, pretty sure I’ve probably messed up a relationship or two in very similar ways as him. Like Hayden I will also just say I want casual and keep talking that way.
And with what happened at the end, I really, really like the way they all handled it. There was a revelation about Tony about two-thirds of the way through that I did NOT see coming. And let’s talk about his friend Caleb. I know that he was kind of a man-whore, but he was hilarious and I am eager for his book! I know that Jackson’s book is next and I’ll be eagerly awaiting that!
