As an exploration of boredom in a utopia and the possibilities of genetic engineering, it’s mildly interesting, but felt unfocused, oddly structured, and kind of tedious.

It's been a long time since I read any Heinlein, and I've always thought of him as one of the SF authors worth reading, but now I'm wondering if I'm going to feel the same way after I get through his other Hugo-winning books (there are five more on the list, some of which I remember enjoying when I read them in my youth). Maybe it's just because this was a fairly early work that hasn't aged well?
