Super intense and very true-life based novel.
Inspired by classic novel, David Copperfield (Dickens).
The poverty and despair and desperation was palpable throughout.
You root for Demon and can’t believe all the heartache and pain and strife that he experiences—both due to circumstances and his own reaction and choice. However, is it really his choice or is life-poverty-his lot the reason he can’t seem to escape?!
The references to Appalachian life and Demon’s childhood and growing up are relatable, especially to this NW Ga-born/raised man.
The everyday life without any reliable food source or income is overpowering.
Read along with audiobook.
Narrator, Charlie Thurston, gives an amazing performance. Barbara Kingsolver’s words and Mr. Thurston’s narration make this a novel I Very highly recommend.
