I’ve been trying to get into horror books for spooky season and this was a really good contender. If you want extremely creepy and full on demonic presence, then this is for you.

The story follows Tessa and Elliot as they accidentally summon the devil. It starts out really slow which was hard to get into, but it starts to really pick up and becomes a page turner. I felt like there could be more “creepy” moments to make it an actual horror, as only one or two moments really were creepy for me. Tessa was a flawed, strong heroine and I enjoyed reading about her. Both Tessa and Elliot come from broken families and my favorite part of the book was seeing them initially meet and know each other.

The ending wasn’t my favorite, because I felt like it was all wrapped up too quickly. I feel like I need to reread it to actually understand what happened in the end. Additionally, the romance went from “I like you” to “I love you” pretty fast.  Overall it was enjoyable and a really good YA horror/dark academia book.
