i thought i was in the mood for this type of book, and it did make a fun read, but i guess my reading tastes will never include presumptuous protagonists who think they're smarter than other women for not falling head over heels for every hot guy, just That One hot guy, who - surprise, surprise - is like any other white man she's ever met. of course she's also exceptionally good at what she does; born good, actually. and let's not forget the endless curves and tiny hips. bc she's NOT as thin and shallow as the dumb, desperate whores our hero is used to.
Garrett is cute tho, he makes Kennedy's take on fake dating worth it. i also appreciate how she handles the serious topics upon which the characters' backstories are built. unfortunately, im not a fan of the established relationship trope nor of angst based on stupidity and miscommunication [i think i just described every contemporary romance ever], and of course seeing a man who is too good to be true mesmerized by a character im not particularly fond of doesn't do much for my bitter self. so the story that took so long to grow on me was already lacking luster by the 75% mark. but when did i not complain about a contemporary book's length? yet, in the epilogue Garrett's bff still had a crush on his girlfriend, but he can't blame him: she's perfect, and a natural at that. /rolls eyes
tw: rape, domestic violence.
