This book was provided to me by Adi Mandal in exchange for an honest review.

I had high hopes. I wasn't sure what this book was about but after seeing the cover and hearing the title, I was excited to get into this. The cover is gorgeous and the title captures someone's interest.

However, this was closer to a novella than a novel. I wished it was longer as there were quite a few details that I felt were left out and things were moving too quickly. It was almost like the author was just trying to finish the book rather than explain everything that was happening and how. The first few chapters I was overall very confused. I wasn't sure what was happening but eventually caught on. I think it just jumped into everything too quick.

The plot was really interesting. I was captured in learning what a "numan" was and all these word thrown around the book that didn't make sense until you read on. I did not care much for Lali though. Krei was an all around nice guy and she just kind of didn't appreciate anything he did for her. She also just busted out with her story about the attacks to a) Theon, who at that time was a total stranger, and b) her mom, who doesn't seem to be phased much by it. Krei is literally begging her to talk to him and she doesn't.

Overall I thought the writing needed some polishing. There were bits of dialogue that didn't sound realistic and there were things that I think could have been fleshed out more. I also wish that there had been more emotion. I like feeling what the characters are feeling - and telling us that Lali is angry or her mother is disappointed is one thing, but making us feel the rage bubble up inside Lali or her mother's pain at the thought of losing her daughter is another.

A solid three stars. A good, quick read.
