The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer
by Michelle Hodkin
Overall, I enjoyed this book.
I liked the problems with Mara's memory, I liked Noah's back story and his general character. Some of the weirder stuff like Mara's 'powers' and the whole witch doctor disappearing shop thing was intriguing. These aspects of the book were its strongest, in my opinion.
Conversely, there were a lot of things that annoyed me, like Mara's general characterand her relationship with Noah, which I thought to be a predictable and boring case of instalove ("ooo a new girl in school who hates the hot guy I wonder what will happen?"). This went on for pages and pages in unnecessary detail and really made the middle of the book drag. . Noah's overdone "perfection" was also quite boring and unrealistic.
I'm intrigued about the story and I have heard the trilogy gets better, so I will carry on with them for now.
