Suicide Squad Vol. 1: Give Peace a Chance
by Robbie Thompson
Well this was a hell of a nice surprise.
I'll be honest, those Future State issues almost made me drop this. Was not a fan.
But then we got to the main storyline and I was in.
This is a more serious take on the suicide squad. Not as jokey as the last few years. There's still humor, and some great lolz moments, but for the most part we have a more serious team here. And Peacemaker makes a great protagonist/antagonist to the team, and having interesting members with diverse amount of personalities really helps build this team up in a interesting way.
The fact we jump from a failure of a team to Earth 3 to meet that fucking psycho ultraman, is great. Plenty of twist along the way, especially the last page of the volume is a SUPER zinger. The art is great, and some excellent fight scenes to be had.
So besides the first ehhhhh issues that cover the Future State storyline, the next six issues build up to be a rather interesting and fun story arc.
A 4 out of 5.
