Book safety, content warnings, and tropes down below.

I couldn’t love him back, but I could keep him. I would keep him. And nothing was going to stop me.

I love getting spoilers. I often need them to even start reading a book, and 99/100 times it only heightens my enjoyment. Once in a while though, it takes the tension and most important elements out of a book. I think I would’ve enjoyed this book more if I didn’t already know everything that was going on, because the mystery was such an important and interesting part, with all the twists and unknowns. But, without the spoilers I wouldn’t have even started it, so it is what it is. Anyway, the plot in this is so unique, and the story really hinges on that tension and the unknown to keep you at the edge of your seat. I can objectively acknowledge that the book was awesome, but when that ‘unknown’ was removed for me, there wasn’t really that much left to go on. This is definitely not the author’s fault.

I really liked all the characters involved, and I ended up caring for Clayton way more than expected, so I was glad that he was a big part of it. Unfortunately, the story felt a little unfinished, and maybe that was on purpose, but by the end I still didn’t really *get* the two MCs as a couple, because it felt like they had barely interacted, and it left me feeling like they both latched onto each other because… why not? It was the next best thing? Something like that. Again, it was really interesting and I enjoyed it more than it probably sounds like, but it didn’t feel like a romance book at all. Maybe a mystery with slight paranormal and romance elements.

I’ve also been in a massive slump which likely didn’t help the situation. Oh well. All to say, feel free to look at the content warnings, but if possible I would go in relatively blind. You’ll likely love the story if so.

Somewhere in the back of my mind, I wondered if this was some kind of trauma response. It might have mattered if his arms around me didn’t feel so good.

Seth looked at me like the constellations were in my eyes, and he was a stargazer seeing a clear sky for the first time.

“You’re mine, Seth. Always. In this life and the next.”
