Peter Pan by J.M. Barrie

This was all at once magical and unsettling and strange, but in a delightful way. I’m not sure if I’m more disturbed or whimsical. It was a quick read, and I highly recommend it. It’s an inspiring work of fiction, if nothing else, though Peter is quite frightening. I’m still not sure what to make of him. Neverland seems very much detached from reality, and I think to really enjoy the story it is best to think of it as something altogether different, as there is a lot of death and killing, at the hands of not just men, but also boys. I think it is that beyond-reality quality that makes this such a classic and special story and worth reading at least once in your lifetime.

I also loved the narrative. I felt like a ghost, drifting about the magical island, J. M. Barrie having a tight hold of my hand and flying along with me, whispering of the events happening as we followed them with our ghostly eyes. It’s certainly a unique way of story telling, and one I enjoyed immensely. There were many odd aspects of this story, but Barrie somehow spins them to be believable and effective. It’s definitely worth the read.
