It's hard for me to step back from this book and be convinced that this is a rom com. (I have also not read any of the author's other works to be able to compare.)
At the end of the day, this book is not about Nora and Charlie. It's about Nora and Libby.
It's about the sacrifices we make for family and those people we love most in the world. And how those sacrifices can impact our own happiness. It's about guilt, grief, and the trauma of losing a parent at a young age. There is a lifetime's worth of shit to unpack with a therapist in here.
And then there's a little bit of love story.
Don't get me wrong, I adore Nora and Charlie's relationship. Their dry wit and banter is 100% my kind of humor. I really do love them and they are perfect for each other. And for them to finally be able to stand up and prioritize their own happiness is 😚🤌🏻
I still really enjoyed this book. But, overall, I think classifying this as a rom com might be misleading.
