An Unwanted Guest by Shari Lapena

3,5/5. I think I prefer The Couple Next Door (previous book by this author) but this one still does the work. A thriller in a remote location, surround by snow, ice and wind, perfect for a winter read. It has some liking with Then there were none by Agatha Christie but just a bit. I like the atmosphere, the characters were well put into place, there a bunch of clichés but it's alright, and I enjoy, I always do, the «everyone has a secret or dark past» vibe in it. That being said the ending let me down a little. Not really predictable, but with that kind of writing/mystery it could have been anybody, so it wasn't the surprise of the lack of surprise that was the problem but the «boffff» feeling we get. There is no wow effect or big surprise and the ending kind of end flat there. Not a bad ending, an average one honestly, but I was expecting, maybe more hoping, for something more original or more spectacular. Fast pace, quick read, worth the time but not a must read!
