ausfangirlreads 's review for:
Carry On
by Rainbow Rowell
“You were the sun, and I was crashing into you. I'd wake up every morning and think, 'This will end in flames.”
I am currently writing this review on no sleep, and it’s this books bloody fault!
Last night, at around 10:30pm, I decided to read a few more chapters before going to sleep, the next thing I knew my phone alarm was going off at 6:30am and I had just finished the book.
This book sucked me in so much that I lost time and the only thing there was left was Simon, Baz and this magical world that Rainbow had created. I would be mad, but I’m in love with this story and its characters too much to be.
The story was creative and Rainbow managed to get a whole series of information into a single book without the feeling of being contently drowned with information. This is hard to do especially in a fantasy book, but she managed it and at the same time made sure we had all the information we needed to understand the story.
The characters were all amazing. I pretty much adopted Baz as my own as soon as he came into the story, the constant back and froths between him and Simon had me laughing so hard at times that the comments are still in my head now. Baz is pretty much sass in human form (well Vampire form really, but who cares) and is constantly taunting and teasing Simon the whole book, which I loved.
Simon I found so adorable with how thick he seemed at times, but he was kind, brave and we shared the same love for food, so how could I not love him.
The relationship that develops between Simon and Baz was so adorable that at times I couldn’t help but go “Awh!!!” out loud, it was either that or laugh at how sassy Baz was being.
Penny was such a strong, smart and fun character, I loved jumping into her point of view and seeing exactly what she was thinking, it was always so insightful.
I will be honest that I didn’t like Agatha that much, I found her character annoying , but that’s just my opinion on her.
I have so many feelings toward this book that I’m actually having trouble writing them down. This might also have to do with the lack of sleep, but I’m going to blame the emotions.
Rating- 5 Stars- Amazing! I loved it!
This whole story stole my heart and all I want to do is pick this book back up and read it again, even though I just finished it.
I would recommend this book to any lovers of Rainbow Rowell, fantasy and romance. Rainbow has always been a great contemporary writer so I was very excited to see what she could do when she stepped all into a fantasy book and I was not disappointed.
Carry On has moved to second place in my favourite Rainbow Rowell books and I don’t think anything will knock my little Vampire and Chosen one out of their place.
Happy reading everyone!
