The Atlas Six by Olivie Blake
4.0

This was an enjoyable story, but the pacing was a bit much to get a hold of. At times it felt incredibly slow, and like I would need a break every ten pages or so (which is a lot of breaks in a book as big as this). A lot of the characters felt whiny and irritating (I think this was partly intentional, but when this was consistently the case with 6 characters it got old fairly quick).

Despite that, as always, the last 100 pages really jumped the rating up a star. The tension really started to build and it felt like there was a serious consequence coming up, as the characters acted as chaotically as they always seemed to, so you could never be sure of what was actually going to happen.

I loved the morphing of science and magic into one reality, and especially how the physicist magic really gets into the fabric of the universe. Although, it felt like from the very early pages we were teased about Libby's powers being difficult to control and leading to huge fire hazards, and then this never actually came to fruition in the book. Maybe this will come about in a later book, but it just felt like a lack of pay-off.
