» PLOT «
Following the double suicide of her parents, Tiernan has no where to go. Until her estranged step-uncle reaches out and takes custody of her. Now stuck in the mountains with virtually no contact to the outside world, Tiernan becomes close to her step-uncle, Jake, and his two sons, Noah and Kaleb.

Honestly, why did she choose
Kaleb
? Low key though, the moments he
talked
at the end was cute.

I'm not a big fan of the pseudo-reverse harem or love square, but this one was okay (mainly because she chose one of them).

Also, what was with Tiernan's nightmares??

» READABILITY «
What can I say, not hard to read.

» CHARACTERS «
Tiernan annoyed me a bit. She is both pathetic (in that she was lacking in parental affection) and headstrong (in fixing up the place and sexually). Two traits I'm not super in to.

Honestly, I don't see the attraction towards Jake. Literally I can't name one thing I like about him.

As for Noah, he's the type of person who thinks he's the shit while simultaneously being an asshole. From the few chapters in his perspective, I feel like he thinks too highly of himself.

Finally, for Kaleb, I have no idea where Tiernan's attraction toward him came from (other than that first encounter). Also, just because he's mute doesn't mean that he should be a shitty communicator. Like how was I (or Tiernan) was supposed to know that he wanted her?

Despite the negatives, all of these characters got better as the book progressed.

» WRITING «
I've only read one other book by Penelope Douglas, but from this book, her writing has gotten better.

» OVERALL «
This was better than Birthday Girl, in writing, plot, and characters.
