A Squiggly Story
by Mike Lowery, Andrew Larsen
If this is the finished edition of this books it leaves blank spots. As the reader I can not understand if they expect me to fill in the squiggly part of the story, draw the illustrations , etc. In this galley edition there are either white blank speech boxes, or blue blank squares. There is a page that looks like a white notebook and under that blank green boxes titled Written by, and Illustrated by. If these spots are just unfinished parts of the book, that is great and I can not wait to see them. If this is how it is to go out, then I think there needs to be a short introduction, or maybe Brother asks the audience to write along with him every time they see some symbol. The idea is there, but I can not see the full concept yet. Brother wants to write a story but needs helps. His sister tells him all he needs to start with is a letter and then add another letter, til you get to The End. There is, on by book jacket, Sister with a word bubble that says “It’s your story. You’re the Boss”. But if that is true then it is located a part of the book that many parents take off for safe keeping.
