Welcome to Night Vale by Jeffrey Cranor, Joseph Fink
2.0

I hate to give something Night Vale such a low rating buuuuuuuutttt... this books was just... I dunno. Not good. I guess writing an entire book is not the format for Joseph and Jeffrey, and they do better limiting their strange, humorous, Lovecraftian style within their usual 23 minute radio show, or the live specials. THOSE are great. Those I have been listening to and falling in love with. This book, not so much. I think my main problem with it were the two main characters, Jackie and Diane, and how they were VERY OBVIOUSLY written by a man. I'd keep hearing (I only got a few chapters into the book and felt it might be easier listening to it, and thank god it was Cecil Baldwin who read it aloud) the thoughts and motives of Jackie or Diane and think "Uuuhhhh, no? That's not how women think?" I would find myself not paying attention and come back after some super-lengthy and bizarre description and lose where I was in the story. Sorry WTNV, I love your show but this book was difficult to get through.

UGH, and now I see there's another book coming out in October and it's got something to do with the Smiling God! Maybe Desert Bluffs? That might mean Kevin is in it! He's my FAVE! Do I dare give the writing another try?
