The Risk

4.5 stars!!
I think this might be my favorite of the Off-Campus & Briar U couples so far!
I love love loveeee Brenna. I loved her confidence, her raw sex appeal, and her love of hockey. I liked the storyline of her trying to break into the sports journalism field. Of course there is an old man in charge who cannot fathom a woman being knowledgeable about sports. When she finds out he is low key obsessed with Jake Connelly she does what any sane romance novel FMC does. . . she lies and says she is dating Jake. I love the fake dating trope, but this was really improved by inverting the trope with Jake's end of the deal. Speaking of Jake. He's great. Even as a player, never had a girlfriend type, I loved his openness to whatever came between them. They had great banter (that continues throughout the relationship) and I absolutely believed their chemistry.
A huge pleasant surprise, we actually got some hockey in this story. Like Brenna, I found myself a little torn on who to root for.
Overall, yeah, I loved it. My own real negative is the side characters felt lost, especially the women. I missed the friendship between Summer & Brenna. Also, Hazel. . . she pissed me off.
