Zahru has been wanting to get out of the kingdom. The Crossing is invoked, which is where the three heirs race a cross a desert and the first heir to cross it and kill the human sacrifice will ascend the throne. Zahru sneaks into the palace and finds two heirs fighting and ends up being forced to be a human sacrifice. She hopes she can find a way to survive.
I really like how unique this story was when being told. I loved the romance and how badass Zahru was. I really enjoyed learning about the kingdom.
