Warsaw zookeepers Jan and Antonina Zabinski lived an idyllic existence among their beloved animals until the Nazi invasion.

Although the loss of their animals, who were often more like members of their family than wild creatures, was devastating they smoothly transitioned into caretakers of their new Guests, refugees from the Warsaw Ghetto and other Jewish friend whose lives were at risk.

Antonina used his position as a respected member of the Warsaw government to work in the underground and ultimately saved over 300 people from sure death.
