I chose to read this trade on a whim since I'd heard of the television show and actually became much more invested in it than expected, which was a welcome surprise. 

Many defining elements from the aforementioned show aren't present here, so if you're hoping to read content that expands upon its episodes you may be disappointed. However, I found these issues to be unquestionably interesting and holding an open mind towards them will likely pay off. 

The main focus in this volume rests on worldbuilding and introducing important characters and creatures, so many questions are still left lingering to be answered later. The reading experience was still satisfying in spite of what went unresolved, and I was particularly engrossed by the explanation as to how these supernatural species came to be, along with the twists involving the primary mysteries. 

I am excited to see where this story goes, and while my original plan was not to read further in the series I now definitely will.
