I fell in love with this book on the first page. What a whimsical, magical story! I love the Irish mythical/ folk tale setting, re-imagined into the modern world. The writing carries an immediacy and energy with it that makes it impossible to put the book down!
Between every chapter is the sheet music to a traditional Irish reel or jig which corresponds to elements in the story. I kept rushing to the piano to play the songs, and searching on YouTube to find recordings of the music. Beautiful! A book with a built-in music soundtrack makes it the marriage of my two ruling passions!
I especially loved that our main character, J.J., is a musician, and rediscovers his love for music through the story and finds new levels of skill and appreciation for music.
The plot is all kinds of fun, with plenty of twists and turns, mysteries to solve, and magic to enchant us.
Now I'm going to hunt up every other book by this author, and listen to some more traditional Irish music!
