Where the Crawdads Sing
by Delia Owens
i loved the nature aspects of this book, i loved kya in her wild and so nature based ways and how she connected more with nature and animals then with humans.
but i disliked the murder aspects of this book a lot.
and i really didn’t like the very ending.
i found the bullying and prejudice very realistic but also bit heavy handed in some moments in this book and used so very clearly as a plot point instead of doing of a realistic part of the story.
so clearly this book was a middle of the road book for me, loving some aspects, strongly disliking others and feeling conflicted over others.
but with the overwhelming love this book received there is clearly an audience out there that loves the book as it is.
for me it was just too much in one. i think the book could have been so perfect without the murder aspects, simply focusing on this “marsh girl” and her life story. no need for added drama, added violence and court scenes that i found unnecessarily dragged out for what the tenure case was.
i am definitely looking out for more books by this author and see if when they are more focused on one area -for example the life story of a nature loving person- i know i will love it.
