A moving story that I didn't think was going to be for me based on the cover and the horror genre. But listening to it as a Tournament of Books shortlister, I was emotionally shaken by the story of Santiago and then M, and his parents. For all its fantastical elements, it has such a reverberating portrait of grief. And it sure surprised me nearly at every turn, which I do not find very often these days!
