“I guess he thought naming his kids after obscure Shakespeare characters might help him get tenure. Either that or he was punishing us for being born. Still in a weird way, hero and I sort of grew into our names. She got a gig as an EMT...I became a worthless joker.”

On an impromptu drive to Melbourne one night my best friend started talking about a comic series he had just finished re-reading, as he started telling me about the story I was immediately interested in it, the way he was explaining the story made it sound so interesting and unique, and when he told me the writer was Brian K. Vaughan I put on my sweetest voice and asked if I could borrow them from him so I could read it myself. He was so excited that I wanted to read them and agreed right away.

So here we are, I’ve just finished reading the first Deluxe Edition (includes Volume 1 & 2) and have actually banned myself from reading the next volume until I have finished my review, so I’m determined to get this done as soon as possible so I can read it, because oh my word it was great!
Y: The Last Man is a dystopian science fiction comic book, the story is captivating, interesting, and I was so drawn into the story that I read it in one sitting, and didn’t even realise I was close to the end until I was turning the last page.

The story follows our lead character Yorick Brown, an unemployed escape artist that is seemingly the only male human left alive after a mysterious plague kills all Y-chromosome carriers on earth. Yorick sets out to find answers as to why this plague happened, while keeping out of the clutches of the cult like Amazonian group determined to find him and kill him.

I love the diversity of the characters, each one is unique with their own characteristics, both good and bad, and the possibility for character development is something I am very much looking forward to continuing with the series. That’s the thing with dystopian books they always require the characters to develop to suit the situations they find themselves in and I can’t wait to see some of these characters develop more!

Rating- 5 Stars- Amazing! I loved it!

I would highly recommend this series to anyone who likes Brian K. Vaughan’s work and is looking for more, or to anyone who is just looking for a dystopian comic book that will keep them guessing until the last page.

I would like to put in a thank you to my comic book dealer (a.k.a. my best friend) he always has the best suggestions and is always happy to let me borrow from his huge collection! He is the best!!
Now that my review is done, I’m off to read the next Deluxe Edition that I have sitting on my coffee table waiting for me!

Happy reading everyone!
