Among the Hidden
by Margaret Peterson Haddix
This was a very fast, intriguing read. My students had to read this for summer reading, and since school starts in a week, I decided it was time to see what I had assigned them. The author did a very good job of introducing themes of totalitarianism, freedom, and propaganda (or, really, the idea of not knowing what, if anything, to believe), while keeping the interest level high for teen readers. I am looking forward to discussing this novel with 12 year olds and seeing what they thought.
