Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

I read this book all in one day! I couldn't put it down. I kept forgetting that OASIS is just a virtual game. The writing made it feel so real and immediate! I love the adventurous story line, and the memorable characters. The puzzles and riddles were fantastic!

I adored this entire story from beginning to end....except...the profanity and sexual references. Why, oh why, did the author ruin this wonderful book with a lot of unnecessary ugliness?! I would cringe every time some trashy dialogue came up. There are dozens of other more descriptive and appropriate words that could have been used. Why do you feel you have to use such offensive words? ugh.

I was also very offended at the obvious insults to religion, especially Christianity. I understand that in the beginning, the author is trying to establish that the world our characters inhabit is a world that has lost hope, until the Game comes along to restore their hope in something. But you didn't have to insult Christianity and say that all religions are lies. This author seems determined to insult and offend everyone he possibly can.

Such a shame. I really loved the story line, but the whole reading experience was ruined for me.
