The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller

As much as I enjoyed this book when I was reading it, this review has taken me two weeks to write, every time I tried to sit down to gather my thoughts, they refused to be gathered. All I can think is that, I enjoyed this book but it didn’t become a new favourite - not very interesting! (The review that is, not the book)
.
I think I would have *loved* it if I knew anything at all about the Iliad, which unfortunately I don’t. So I missed all the connections to the original story, but the good news is, clearly The Song of Achilles can still be enjoyed if you’re like me and know nothing about The Iliad!
.
As with everyone else, I fell in love with Achilles and Patroclus. I also loved the mythical characters Thetis and Chiron, who wouldn’t want to go live with a kindly centaur in the forest and learn wilderness skills?
.
So this is definitely a solid read that I would recommend, but I’m struggling to put my finger on exactly what I enjoyed about it - most likely the characters & their relationships, as although the writing was simple and elegant, it didn’t blow me away, it was just very nice and readable.
.
Sorry for the shittest review I’ve ever written, but yah this was a nice book, and I was expecting it to make me cry and it didn’t although it was rather emotional at the end!
