I was very interested to see what else Geoff Johns had in store for the Shazam family after such a long hiatus. There’s plenty of interesting additions to the lore (particularly with the idea of the Seventh Champion), but with how bloated this book is I can’t help but feel Johns just threw every idea he had into one book pacing be damned. I really do like the emotional conflict of the story. Billy’s emotional struggle to decide who he wants to be a part of his family is absolutely worth telling, and I wish Johns had focused more on that and fleshing out the rest of Billy’s foster siblings than whatever was going on with the Magic Lands. If you’re *REALLY* curious about what Geoff Johns had planned after his first Shazam story in the New52 then go ahead and pick this up, but if you’re looking for a quality Shazam story I think you’re better off looking elsewhere.

Also, for the love of god, can we please retire the character of Superboy Prime? He’s had diminishing returns since his introduction and his inclusion here was definitely the worst part.
