Love & Olives
by Jenna Evans Welch
Where Love & Gelato focused on a girl's relationship with her deceased mother and new father, and where Love & Luck focused on a girl's relationship with her brother, Love & Olives focuses on a girl's relationship with her father. With some romance on the side, of course. I love that Jenna Evans Welch's Love & books focus on these familial relationships as well as developing romantic ones. It gives the books more substance and explores the characters.
In Love & Olives, Liv goes to Greece to visit her estranged father who is obsessed with Atlantis. Liv explores the island of Santorini while they film a documentary for National Geographic about Atlantis. She becomes good friends with her father's protégée Theo who is filming the documentary and lives in the bookstore co-owned by Liv's father.
As a lover of Greek myth and the Disney movie Atlantis, I like that there was a lot of information about Atlantis in the story. I liked how the friendship between Theo and Liv developed. From bunkmates listening to French rap to something more. Overall, I really enjoyed the book.
