Slow burn time travel romance

This is my first book by this author and I really enjoyed her style of writing. She has a beautiful way of making you feel like you are right there, experiencing everything with the characters. Her descriptive style made you taste the grit of the desert, feel the dust from the stagecoach permeate your clothing or feel the heat of the fire as you watch the rabbit roast.

Maxton, from the present, is trying to escape his less than stellar past. He impetuously takes off for Mexico in his car when danger threatens. He gets sucked into a whirlwind and finds himself in 1892 where homosexuality is illegal. He knows that he has 2 friends from his time here in Trinidad, Colorado and tries to make his way to them. Unfortunately he ends up in jail tormented by two cruel deputies.

Trent, The Sherriff of Trinidad, is tasked with escorting Maxton to Trinidad.
Trent leads a rather lonely existence, and believes he must deny his nature to maintain his impeccable reputation.
Maxton and Trent travel by horseback for 5 days in harsh conditions and start to develop an attraction for each other.
It takes a few trials and tribulations before they finally embrace their HEA.
This is a stand-alone but includes characters from the previous Love Across Time books.
I highly recommend this book.
