When the World is Free is a novel following Sylvia after her lover, Nicky, dies in battle. She marries his gay friend, John, as a way to manage societal expectations when she learns of her pregnancy. However, everything becomes complicated when Nicky turns up 7 months later, very alive.
This book was so cute and good. I love the way it depicted the grief process and how Nicky handled PTSD. The romance aspect was just so wholesome after the main conflicts were ironed out. I highly recommend this to queer readers who need a dose of joy in their lives. Especially if you don't have a very accepting family. 4.5/5 stars.
