My Heart Is a Chainsaw
by Stephen Graham Jones
TW: mentions of past rape and incest, blood, gore, death, murder, trauma, body horror, racism
A wholly origional and breathtaking take (and commentary on) the classic horror/slasher story and the tropes attached to them. Jade was a magnificent protagonist. Gore, emotion, thrills and mystery tie this up with a final scene in a book I'll never forget and will be one of the most moving things I've ever read.
