As someone who has watched the show before reading the books, I saw both similarities and new things about the book and how it compares.

I really enjoyed the added storyline that the book provided over the show. Diana truly created a romance for the ages. I would say this is a open door romance (erotic scenes) but not overly sexual and done quite tastefully.
