The Perfect Marriage
by Kimberla Lawson Roby
What seemed like the perfect marriage on the outside wasn’t so perfect behind closed doors. Derrek & Denise Shaw were like your typical married couple. They both had successful careers, were happily married for years, shared a loving daughter, awesome house and luxury cars.
Sounds like they were living the perfect life doesn’t it? Or so I thought. Derrek and Denise shared a little secret that they tried keeping in the dark. But eventually like they say what’s done in the dark will always come to light. Their innocent use of drugs turned that perfect marriage into shambles.
This kind of shows you how easy it is to become addicted to drugs. Especially when you have the financial resources to continuously purchase them. I know many might say I would never or could never. But sometimes you don’t know what someone is going through or what led up to them using drugs. Not everyone has willpower or are strong enough to resist temptation so they give in like Derrek did.
On the other hand with Denise curiosity killed the cat LOL. She kind of did that to herself being curious about shit. Not only that her trying to live up to the expectations of others (her father) was damaging to her both mentally and physically. This gave her a reason to continue using because in her eyes her life was sooooo stressful and the drugs were her stress relief.
I’m not sure what I was expecting when I first read this LOL. But I was on the edge of my seat the entire time. This was a pretty quick read finished it in a day or so. I was definitely hooked from beginning to end. Derrek and Denise were really something else y’all.
Denise being in denial about being addicted to drugs knowing damn well she couldn’t just stop whenever she wanted. Then Derrek pissed me off with his stupidity. The list literally goes on with him. But the day he hit that crack pipe I was done. Cause no sir that was to far LOOOL.
Overall, I love how Kimberla jumped straight into the action with this one. Definitely recommend and it’s worth the read.
