The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up
by Marie Kondo
So, I listened to the audiobook for this one (while cleaning my room) and I’m glad I did. But I’m also glad I did so for free. I like her methods for organizing, but I’ve put my own spin on some of them. While I agree that decluttering should be the first step, there’s no way in hell I’m getting rid of books that I might not read for years or even ever again. As an avid reader and book lover, I plan on one day having my own library in my house. So unless a book is in truly poor condition or a textbook that I obviously won’t get any use (or money) from, I’m keeping all my books! There are a couple of other methods that I just don’t agree with for my personal preference of organizing or that I believe are a bit too excessive to bring me joy or peace. However, I get the logic behind all of her methods. It’s an interesting process of organizing and she gave me some great new ideas, but I can also see why not everyone will like it. As long as you don’t take everything she suggests as an obligation, her method should produce some positive results. At the very least, it’ll bring a new perspective that can lead to an organizing process that sticks.
