Sometimes I just miss pictures with my stories and when that happens I know it is time to pick up a graphic novel. I do not read many and it is just fairly recently that I start reading them but I have found I quite enjoy them most of the time. I love how quick it is to read a story and looking at the beautiful pictures are a definite plus. I occasionally like to peruse the comics&graphics section of Netgalley and this one sounded like a good match. I will admit it wasn’t exactly what I was expecting but I found it enjoyable.

The first few pages didn’t show up (and then other pages here and there) for me so I was a tad confused to start. I was busy trying to figure out where the pages were but I also knew I didn’t miss much (just the events leading to the wipe out). I also assumed it would be in color and was a tad bummed about that when starting but I quickly got over it. I prefer colors but it wasn’t the end of the world and I thought the drawing was good (there was a lot of detail to the surroundings).

Sometimes I would think okay this is bit ridiculous. I can’t believe it but then I was like no…I totally believe it. It actually felt very real and I found the dialog pretty hilarious at times. Were people complete appropriate all the time? Nope. Was it at times crass/vulgar? Yup, and that is exactly what I thought was great about it. Not everyone is going to talk this way or joke around with the people close to them like they did in the Cute Girl Network but for me I was like “sounds like someone I know”. The dialog had to be my favorite part about the story. It reminded me of one of those romantic comedies that you could actually convince a guy to go see.

The characters themselves on the other hand were alright for me. I liked Jane. She wasn’t the stereotype of a girl. She was a skateboarder, smart, funny, and give just as much as she took from the people in her life. She was all about doing what she wanted in the ending and kudos to her for that. I didn’t care for Jack on his own but I wasn’t against them being together. Was he a terrible person? No. Did I find him swoon worthy? haha no. Friends on the other hand, possibly.

Overall, The Cute Girl Network was quick and pretty hilarious.
