Kate In Waiting
by Becky Albertalli
Okay I enjoyed the Love, Simon movie and loved Leah on the Offbeat but Albertalli's newest book may be my favorite, partially because it is about musical theater kids and I was one, once upon a time ago. Kate and her best friend Anderson are enmeshed (her friend group's nicer way if saying codependent). One way this plays out is that since she is straight and he is gay, they often have mutual crushes, or what they call co-crushes, and those are usually harmless commiserations. However, when their theater camp co-crush moves to town and is involved in the musical with them it tests their friendship in a new way. I loved this book! Definitely fighting for top spot this month with at least one other so far. I hope they make this one into a movie too and that they are able to show the theater rehearsals and part of the show.
