There were enough twists and mysteries to keep me entertained but I didn't really like any of the characters.  

Jess is running away from something (do we even figure out what?? I don't even know) and running to her brother in Paris results in him not being there to welcome her. She meets all the people who live where he has been staying and they are all suspicious and not forthcoming about Ben.

Once you figure out who all these people are, you really get into what the head person has been illegally doing. Come to find out what that is, it's just very creepy. What happened to Ben is a twist I didn't see coming.
