abbie_ 's review for:
The Thursday Murder Club
by Richard Osman
funny
mysterious
medium-paced
This is a favourite for many so perhaps my expectations were too high. It was fine, it kept me guessing and it was easy to read. But it felt a bit too cold and clinical (I feel like Osman’s background in quiz shows is fairly obvious with how methodical it feels) and the characters (except Ron, love Ron) felt a bit flat. At some points I had to check I hadn’t accidentally started with the second book, as no one is really introduced. It was like turning up to a dinner party midway through and no one introduces you to the rest of the guests. Joyce especially was very blah and I didn’t see the point in her diary entry chapters.
BUT as far as the mystery is concerned, I did enjoy the twists and turns so a three star from me.
