Girl, 11 by Amy Suiter Clarke
4.0

A disturbing thriller based on a true crime podcaster working a cold case⁣

First, let me just say that I enjoyed this book on audio immensely! It was very well done and I’m so glad I experienced it that way. I was completely immersed, as if I were listening to a true crime podcast. There were alternating chapters of podcast scripts, Elle’s POV and even peeks at the killer’s back story. Having the killer’s perspective always adds an extra layer of creepiness to the story that I’m a fan of. The killer was ritualistic and his murders were bone chilling. This one is definitely not for more sensitive readers but if you like dark and disturbing (like me!) - grab this one. ⁣

Elle Castillo is a former social worker turned true crime podcaster. She turns her attention to The Countdown Killer (TCK) after receiving a tip on the cold case and discovering a dead body. She begins to work as a consultant on the case of a missing girl and is convinced the case is tied to TCK, even though he’s been dormant for years. ⁣

This is a slower paced thriller that builds up with a sense of foreboding that I really enjoyed. I was definitely on edge as I listened! The plot was predictable, especially for seasoned thriller readers, but I didn’t mind that because I thoroughly enjoyed the ride this audiobook took me on. I haven’t seen this book around much and I definitely feel like it’s a debut that’s gone under the radar and needs more attention. I’ll definitely be watching for what Amy Suiter Clarke writes next!⁣
