I can sum this up simply: These peasants are insufferable.
I’m not sure aimlessness does all that much, beyond propelling the fiction forward. The prose work similarly makes it an easier read. But there isn’t that much substance in Medieval this satirical bent. From time to time it does strike a millennial chord, particularly when trolling the stupidity and arrogance of men in power. It felt like it meandered a little too much from such instances, constantly reiterating things already established, constantly compounding the travesty—that it becomes almost nihilistic. Almost, because there isn’t quite enough craft for that to be the buttressing. So, is this simply non-entertaining chaos, then?
