this was fine.
good.
but i can’t say i loved it not would i say i hated it as it seems to be the popular thing on may hyped books.
for me this was okay.
the plot idea was great, i liked the characters okay and the writing was (hopefully) purposefully overdone and pretentious sounding in a way that was still easy to read but over the top non the less.
there were pretty equal amounts of things i liked and disliked in this.
i wish we would have gotten a better explanation and understanding of the magic system and how it worked and all of that. we got some but i would have loved to come out of this book actually understanding how it works.
i disliked the ending. i didn’t hate it but it felt a bit too … see what happens next in the next installment -which you have to read to actually understand anything and figure out what’s going on … maybe.
i dislike the this kind of open endings in books and series as this did. because it feels like it forces readers to continue in hopes they will find answers they didn’t were purposefully denied in the book they just read.
it’s not just an issue i have with this particular book alone though. it happens very often and i am not completely sure if the publishers push for that kind of ending or if the authors choose it themselves.
this was an utterly unhelpful review but honestly i don’t have a lot to say about this book because overall it didn’t feel like huge things happened?
this book left me with way more questions than answers and that’s yet another thing i dislike but at least i could continue right on with the next book and see if that one gives a few answers instead of even more questions.
all in all i have to say i am a bit underwhelmed with this book.
it has a huge amount of potential in all aspects but to me it read a lot like a book that used a lot of words to do very little and filled it with characters that had huge amounts of promise but never quiet got there or showed it in a way that made the entire reading experience worth it.
i am unsure if that is because i wasn’t in the right head space for this book or if it’s just not a series i can personally adore because it has too many things about it that i don’t love on my books.
i might need to reread this before deciding my actual thoughts and feelings about it this.
