An Enchantment of Ravens
by Margaret Rogerson
The comparisons to ACOTAR are mostly because there is romance, faes and courts.
So I definitely enjoyed this book but...Look, this book is small and I feel like the romance was incredibly underdeveloped from the beginning which made it hard for me to buy into the entire plot of the book.
I don't know if it was over edited or Rogerson's just didn't write it but there was no build to their romance. If Rogerson was trying to do a "love at first sight" thing then she didnt explain it as well as she needed to. it just seemed like all of a sudden they were making these massive declarations of love and risking an awful lot for this relationship that didn't seem...worth it yet? I wish there would've been a chapter or two (or even a few scenes) that grew the romance so I could understand what they risked. You can't go from Fey & Rhys ch 1 to ch 55 of ACOMAF without developing the relationship!
I enjoyed the quest and magic but I feel a lot of things in the book we're just introduced and never shown or explored to the reader. this would've been fine if it was a series that would go more into it in the future but as a stand alone...it fell a little flat. I think the book was a fun read overall but definitely doesn't live up to the hype of being compared to ACOTAR.
It definitely showed that Rogerson is a new author and needs to develop and grow. Im definitely interested in seeing what else she writes.
